UK advertising watchdog says firms could not corroborate claims on environmental impact of air travel

Adverts from Air France, Lufthansa and Etihad have been banned by the UK’s ad regulator due to concerns they have misled customers about the environmental impact of air travel.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned three adverts identified in July using artificial intelligence that suggested flights operated by leading airlines were sustainable.

Parcels and letters will soon be distributed by electric aircraft between regions of New Zealand as the sparsely populated country embarks on a “new age of propulsion” in its attempts to decarbonise its reliance on aviation.

On Wednesday, Air New Zealand announced it had purchased a battery-powered, all-electric five seater cargo aircraft, which will be put to use running mail between airports with New Zealand’s postal service from 2026.

Airline to pay regular dividends as finance boss says consumers are going to continue spending

Ryanair is to hand its shareholders regular payouts for the first time after soaring air fares put the airline on track to make record profits.

The budget carrier said it expected to notch up profits of between €1.85bn (£1.6bn) and €2.05bn in the financial year to the end of March, far outstripping its previous highest profit of €1.45bn in 2018.

Lower-fare environment will shake out more loss-making rivals, says Michael O’Leary

Ryanair has issued its second profit warning in four months, blaming intense competition over the winter that prompted the Irish budget airline to cut fares.

Profits for the year ending 31 March will be €100m (£88m) lower than previous expectations, at between €1bn to €1.1bn, the company said in a statement to the stock market. That was down from the €1.1bn to €1.2bn range previously expected.
